Write for OnlySky

OnlySky is now accepting fiction and non-fiction pitches.

OnlySky is an outlet for writing that explores the future through a secular lens; in other words, writing that champions rational thought, evidence-based argument, and philosophy founded on what's good for human beings in this world.

This secular perspective can be implied, but the future focus must be clear. We welcome predictions, speculations, extrapolations of current trends, and well-argued contrarianism.

Any topic or time range (next month, next year, 50,000 years from now) will be considered. Past article topics have included the future of music, language, warfare, community, climate, AI, politics, space travel, murder, health care, technology, weather forecasting, and the future of futurism.

Articles are generally 1000-2000 words. They should be written for an intelligent general audience and well sourced.

If you'd like to contribute, please e-mail editor@onlys.ky with your name, your topic idea, some brief biographical information, and links to samples of your previous writing (if available).

Fiction

OnlySky is now accepting short fiction.

As with our non-fiction guidelines, we're seeking stories that explore the future through a secular lens. Fiction submissions should use storytelling as a medium to explore possible future developments in science, technology, politics, culture, or all of these at once. They can be utopian, dystopian, or anything in between. Cli-fi, cyberpunk, hopepunk, solarpunk, Afrofuturism, and other future-focused genres are all welcome.

Stories submitted for publication should be either realistic or hard sci-fi, i.e., no fantasy or supernatural elements, no alternate history, no technology not currently known to be possible. Between 1000 and 5000 words is preferable; longer submissions will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

To submit a story for consideration, please e-mail editor@onlys.ky with the full story attached in RTF, DOC or DOCX format. Please include your name, your story title and length, and previous writing credits, if any. First-time writers are also welcome to submit.

We look forward to reading your ideas!
